Until now we’ve had a “human kind” of technology. If bots start to get more share in our everyday life, and we’re afraid we are going to have to fight with them for existence you thought in the virtual world is different? No!

A study suggests humans only account for 38.5% of internet traffic.

So bots on every step on the Internet.

61.5% of all website traffic is now generated by bots. The security firm said that was a 21% rise on last year's figure of 51%.
And a lot of malicious ones among these for stealing data. Scary ha?
But there are good ones also. A lot of these bots is used by search engines for indexing content, feedback and such “statistical” stuff.
BUT – there is a rise of those bots, bad guys, that pretend to be the search engines and do stuff they’re not supposed to do.

And it’s not that bad although. There has big a huge drop for the frequency of spam posting.

So this is like a new trend. Internet traffic is being generated by bots. Mainly. Visits, pageviews and all of that is gained “artificially”. You thought that article on your blog is so popular 1208234923 people have read it? Or that song on YouTube is so good? Now you like it even more?

Well you’re wrong. For 61.5% as the study says.

Is this good or bad? Can’t say. It will surely make more costs for the ones that have to maintain the Internet to be able to sustain that much traffic. And there is enough cost for these milions of people on it. If every single person of those milions of users of the Internet is able to make their own bots for any purpose – imagine the traffic jam you face every day sitting in your car! That will be the same on the Internet.

And it also gives space for malicious actions.

But regardless of the technical issues, there is also some ethical and moral question of how to see the "popularity" of certain sites gained through these bots?

Where do these bots lead us with all of the above?
