Scientists claim that this largest fruit in the world – Nangka or Jackfruit, can provide us a solution when it comes to rising temperatures and reduced yields of wheat and corn.

Nangka or Jackfruit is a kind of fruit that is quite grown in the tropical regions; it grows in nature in parts of South and Southeast Asia. Fruit of the Nangka tree is the largest fruit in the world!

This fruit can grow up to a whopping 90 centimeters in length and can be wide up to 50 cm and the weight of it may be up to a record 45 pounds.

Nangka fruit is grown as one of the main foods in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and in a few African countries. This interesting and strange fruit is rich in fiber and minerals, vitamins, and all this without the saturated fat and cholesterol, making it one of the healthy and tasty foods.

The researchers say that exactly Nangka can be a substitute for wheat, corn and other crops threatened by climate changes. The World Bank and the UN have recently warned that rising temperatures and increased rainfalls have reduced yields of wheat and corn, and this can lead to serious problems for the next ten years. This fruit grows on trees and it is also full of nutrients and calories. Even small fruits weigh about 5-7 kg, and farmers have noted some heavy up to 45 kg.

Danielle Nierenberg, president of Food Tank, which works on sustainable agriculture claims that it is easy to grow. Nangka is resistant to the pests and diseases and the high temperatures. It is resistant to the drought. She also says that nangka fruit achieves what farmers need in food, when faced with many challenges such as the climate changes.
