Is making machines smarter aligned with the goals of humanity? Is it just fear or something else?

Artificial intelligence is now becoming a part of our everyday life. But this artificial intelligence should be taken with much more care.

The movies with robots taking over could be the cruel reality as the biggest existential threat to humanity. Many human inventions have posed as dangers. Fire, you remember fire? It was as huge as AI nowadays when talking about inventions.

But since AI is much more complex and it gets into the depth of many aspects of life imagine what consequences could we have if we don’t handle it carefully.

Remember nuclear weapons? TNT? These were inventions that really got out of hands.
AI has some good sides too. AI can achieve enormous good in society. It could save lives. Or prevent car accidents. Avoid medicine errors. Still there is a fear that if we create a program capable of continually improving itself it could get out of hands.

The smarter the device the better… Not that case here. It may be quite interesting but it could lead us to a place we don’t want to be on. Is making the machines smarter aligned with the goals of the human race?

Nuclear power gave us unlimited energy stored in an atom… But the first thing we created as “nuclear” it was a nuclear bomb. So people can get out of control sometimes. We must prevent it from happening with AI.

There was a conference in Puerto Rico with this topic in January. This question was raised. After the conference hundreds of scientists signed to an open letter describing the potential benefits of AI but also warning about the dark sides of it.

So either redefining the goals of humanity or the goals of getting the machines smarter.
