There are a lot of lies going around about digital marketing. Be very careful who you trust!

The goal of every company is to market their products to their customers the best way possible. The problem is that there is no universal technique which can be applied to everyone. There will always be people who stay immune to a certain kind of marketing approach, and that's perfectly OK.

Take the easy route. Don't try to get those people. Target those who show interest in your business sphere and get them on board.

Now that we got a few things out of the way, there are some common myths about digital marketing that you have to know in order to be successful at it.

Too Many Social Media Platforms

Sure, the number of social media platforms is higher than ever, and still on the raise. But this doesn't have to mean that you shouldn't find those that are best for you. Being able to keep up with social media is only another opportunity for your business. Of course, there are companies that don't have enough resources (maybe finding a strategic partner would be a good idea!) and they should not spend all their funds on social media.

Here is the thing: each social media platform is designed to attract different kind of people, so this is where you should be looking for your shot.

The most beautiful thing about social media marketing, and digital marketing in general, is that it gives you the option of thinking outside the box. You don't have to spend millions on campaigns (check out what you can do with only $100). You just need a witty, visually attractive post to attract new customers.

Too Young Audience

Let's face the facts. Yes, there are millions of young (too young) people surfing around the web and they rarely make a difference for your business.

But there are far more young buyers than there ever were before, so digital marketing is actually changing the habits of buyers. Facebook, as the most powerful digital marketing tool, is really good as targeting specific audience through use of many tools, techniques and algorithms. You can always switch and adjust your strategy to be in accordance to your current goals.

This is exactly where the beauty of digital marketing is - the ability to reach exactly who your want, where and when you want it.

Email Is Dead

Email marketing is still very relevant, so don't make a mistake and ignore it. It may not seem logical, but customers actually love email. A research from Adestra has shown that 73% of millennial consumers say they would rather use email marketing as form of communication with companies that any other form. Those are pretty big numbers!

Also, emails are becoming more modern and personalization is taking over. If you are talking to your customer like he is an actual person, you are much more likely to get a reaction. Any email marketing software worth your while will allow you to personalize your emails for the most effective results. Through the landing page used in your inbound marketing strategies, you should now at least have the users first name, last name, and email. Your CRM database can now take that basic information and personalize every email sent to that individual. Just like that, you can send a personalized email to every person in your database, and this does make a difference. Personalized emails see an improved click-through rate of 14%, increase in conversions of 10%, and personalized subject lines see a 26% higher open rate.

Email marketing services have proven many times over that they can create a huge spike in ROI. Various researchers have shown that the average ROI of email stands between 4,300% and 4,700%.

SEO Is Dead

SEO or Search engine optimization is also a very important aspect of digital marketing. Just like email, it is often considered to be out-dated, but I assure you that is not the case.

With over 1 billion websites and billions of content, it can be crucial for your business to have a good SEO campaign.

SEO allows you to attract people halfway across the world as well as locals with the right strategy. There are consistently new robot capabilities picking apart content and ranking it by relevance for searchers. Combining SEO with digital marketing and exceptional content will drive more organic search results.
