Designing and coding a successful website, requires your time, energy, dedication and - money.

If you've already put it all in the site and you do not think it should change, even if you do not even remember how old it is, it's time to learn which indicators clearly say that it's time to redesign the website.

The Internet is changing at the speed of light. Just look at the cellphone you used 5 years ago, and what you have now, and how much you have changed them in the meantime. With the Internet and websites, changes are happening even faster, almost every day. More and more users visit the internet via mobile phones, and in order to make their experience good, it is necessary to update the site regularly and to customize it.

After all, Google regularly updates the algorithms by which ranks websites and is also an additional reason for tracking news on the web and applying them to your site.

Unless you are an expert to whom it is a job to monitor all these changes, you are probably not even aware that your site needs a redesign. These are some of the indicators that it's time for your website to get a new look.

1: HIGH BOUNCE RATE

A high bounce rate is not just an indicator that users leave the site after viewing one page, but also whether the website design should be edited.

View the data and analyze them. The retention rate is lower, i.e. the more users leave the page after a few seconds, the stronger signal is that something is wrong.

2: THE PAGES ARE LOADING SLOWLY

Google promotes quality content as a goal to be aspired to, regardless of the site in question. His algorithms are better ranked by sites whose pages are loaded faster.

A fast website is also good for SEO, as it also influences how users move through the pages. A slow website is likely to deny users, so they will not be a long on the site.

Visit Google Speed Insights to check how fast your website loads on mobile phones and computers. This tool is good and offers tips on what to do to improve the speed of loading the site.

Poor and acceptable results suggest that you should invest a lot of time to bring the site to a better state, while high results, closer to number 100, say that everything is in the best order.

3: TECHNICAL ERRORS

If the retention rate suddenly increases and decreases without apparent reason, look at the parties to the issue. Perhaps users have tried to visit pages that do not exist, maybe the links are bad, maybe the widgets do not load properly, and maybe they are too many, so the pages are slowly loading. The reason is a multitude.

Try to view the website from the perspective of the user. Visit it from a variety of browsers (such as Chrome, Mozilla, Vivaldi, Opera), and from various devices (computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones), and be aware of how and if the layout of items on the page is changed in relation to the size of the screen and the type of device from which you are viewing the site.

You can also visit the Google Search Console to see if there are any visible errors on the site.

4: BAD UI

One of the safe ways to refuse visitors and earn a punishment from Google is to overload the site with the popup windows that have so much that the user does not even get to see the site. Also, a popping window that does not get away from the site while the visitor does not do something (signing up for a mailing list, clicking on a feedback, and so on) will probably refuse it from the site.

Such windows slow down the site if too many, make it difficult to navigate through the site, and refuse visitors, thus creating a bad impression on the user (UI).

Ask friends and acquaintances to visit your site and tell you honestly if they were able to find some information on it. Let them explain why they do not like something on the site - it should be a sufficient sign for what to change.

5: THE SITE IS NOT OPTIMIZED FOR MOBILE DEVICES

More and more users visit websites from mobile phones and other portable devices like tablets. There are even estimates that this year, in America, mobile phone searches will outperform the computer. That's why it's one of the main reasons for your site to be adapted to mobile devices, and that the navigation bar and buttons are easily accessible on such small screens.

Google here offers another good tool for checking the speed of the site on portable devices. By simply checking the homepage of the site you will get an insight into the speed of loading and display the site on your mobile phone, for a standard 3G connection.

The download speed is displayed in seconds - if a minute is displayed, this is a very bad sign, a sure indicator that the site needs to be redesigned. The faster the site loads, the fewer visitors you lose. It's great that you can also get a free report on what needs to be done to improve the speed of loading.

6: OUTDATED DESIGN

If you've ever heard a claim that the computer has already become obsolete the moment you buy it, know that the same is the case with the Internet. When you finish updating the site, it's slow out of date.

Websites 20K years ago, compared to today, looked scary. The buttons were flashing on all sides, the colors were somewhere between gray and neon, the graphics are very pixelated, the links are monotonous and mostly blue ... Although many such sites continue to function, they are not appealing to visitors.

We leave the first impression only once, and if the visitor likes the site at first glance, the chances are that they will return. A site once denied by the visitor will hardly draw it back.

THE CONCLUSION

If you look at the website as a house, no one will enter into it if the mortar is slaughtered and the bricks fall out of the walls. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to get things done, and sometimes you need to make the site from scratch. This is especially difficult if you have invested a lot of time and effort on an old website that has already grown to your heart.

Because of this emotional element, it's very likely that you will not even notice that your site needs a redesign. You can see the most important signals if you look at analytics. Poor percentage of attendance and sudden drop in attendance, slow loading of pages, decreasing visitor numbers, poor site ranking, data on the devices from which users visit your site are just some of the signs that you should pay attention to.

Most important of all is that the change should not be scared, and the redesign of the website can provide you with survival in the modern market. Investments can be unexpected, demanding and high, but the results will surely show that they are worth it.
