The two programs are similar but different.

There is not just one, ideal program that will be used by all UX designers and the user interface (UI) or all who are dealing with graphic and web design. There is currently more than one software available and, in all likelihood, there will be more, and as the two most current tools in the field of UX and UI design, Adobe Experience Design CC, Adobe XD, and Sketch from Bohemian Coding.

This time we compare these two programs, we present their similarities and differences and see the advantages and disadvantages, in order to draw a conclusion on which of them deserves more attention of designers and, finally, which is faster and more efficient to use.

To begin with, note that prior to creating the XD solution, Adobe has constantly upgraded the options available in Photoshop and Illustrator. These two tools have been widely marketed for nearly 30 years and it is clear that the Adobe interface is well known to almost every designer. Nevertheless, the years passed without any new tools and this has badly affected the overall position, especially when the development of some other applications has been stopped.

The circumstance has led many web designers to want an alternative solution. It appeared in 2009, and it's called Sketch. Many have experienced it as a refresher - a refined application specializing in creating vector graphics, prototypes, and collaboration among designers.

Based on numerous user comments, the conclusion is that most of the beginning is satisfied with this tool, and has quickly become a standard. However, for those who work on Macs.

Still, however, many use Photoshop and Illustrator, it cannot be said that all of them suddenly gave up, but the new tool was at the top of the top-most web design applications for seven years. As long as Adobe did not decide to hit back.

In March 2016, this company launched a new application from its creative package and called Adobe Experience Design CC or shortly - Adobe XD. It is a program for creating vector graphics and designing prototype design solutions. The target group is all those who deal with UX and UI design. So, they are also the target group for Sketch.

The designers faced a dilemma. The two programs are similar but different. To use both? Or it is more effective to define one. But which one?

With this text, we will try to answer the question of what Sketch has, which Adobe XD does not have. And vice versa.

SIMILARITIES

Look

It is noticeable that both programs are based on a very similar user interface. There are, however, small differences. In the vertical menu on the left, for example, Sketch has additional icons, and also on the upper line of the frame also offers more options. The overall look of this application is completed in blue, while the XD is monochromatic.

Speed, transparency, functionality

Both programs boast speed, though many users emphasize that Adobe XD is even sharper. In the case of, for example, testing the prototype created, in the Experience Design it is sufficient to use the abbreviation CMD / CTRL + Enter.

On the other hand, in the extension of Craft by InVision, which, as an external addition, joins the Sketch application and is specialized for the prototype review, it is necessary that each board setting is synchronized with the prototype each the time when a change occurs. It only then copies the URL that is added to the browser. This means two steps more, which can greatly slow down the designer's work. In Kraft, however, the prototype seems more realistic.

Storing and sharing data

In both cases, there is an option to store data in a virtual space for that purpose (cloud computing). One possibility is to store all data in Adobe Creative Cloud, while it is equivalent to Sketch Cloud. From here, data can easily be shared with everyone.

Shortcuts

It is known how many shortcuts in the use of the program can shorten the time of creating one design - from conceptualization, through design, prototype, and testing, to the delivery of the final solution to the client. In both programs here, shortcuts are the same or similar to most of the basic functions, such as copying and cropping, duplicating, opening a new document, closing existing windows, or zooming in and out of the graphics itself. What makes shortcuts different, is exactly where these two tools differ from one another.

In this article, we list all the similarities between these two programs. Expect soon to direct your attention to all their differences.
