Warriors Capture Second-Straight NBA Championship

For the second-straight year and third time in four seasons, the Golden State Warriors are NBA Champions after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-85 in Game 4 of the 2018 Finals on Friday night. Golden State jumped out to a big early lead and never trailed by more than a single point throughout the contest on their way to completing the four-game sweep. Stephen Curry got off to a hot start, scoring 20 points of his game-high 37 points in the first half, while Kevin Durant recorded a triple-double before being named the 2018 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. In winning the 2018 title, Golden State joins the Chicago Bulls (6) for the third-most championships in NBA history behind the Boston Celtics (17) and the Los Angeles Lakers (16).

Warriors, in Full Dynasty Mode

The Golden State Warriors were not perfect. They lost 24 games during the regular season. Rather than chase records, they endured injuries and bouts of complacency. Their path to the N.B.A. finals was more Appalachian Trail than autobahn. It took work, which might sound ridiculous, given their lavish roster.

But hours before his team’s latest coronation was complete, Coach Steve Kerr reflected on the finals in 2015, back when the run started, back when it was fresh and new.

“It just seemed chaotic,” he said. “Everything seemed so up and down. Now, it seems more businesslike. We’re more poised.”

Only the result was the same. For the third time in four seasons, and for the second year in a row, the Warriors are N.B.A. champions. They demolished the Cleveland Cavaliers, 108-85, on Friday night at Quicken Loans Arena to complete a four-game sweep, thwarting every challenge that LeBron James — their most familiar, most gifted adversary — could muster.

Stephen Curry led Golden State with 37 points, and Kevin Durant had a triple-double: 20 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists.

“To win in a sweep feels pretty good,” said Durant, who was named the M.V.P. of the finals for the second straight year.

Golden State Warriors' NBA championship parade set for Tuesday

The Warriors swept the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, becoming back-to-back NBA champions. It is Golden State's third championship in the past four seasons.

The celebratory parade will take place on Tuesday, June 12. It will begin on Broadway at 11th Street and end on Oak and 13th Street in Oakland, Calif.

This year there will not be a rally after the parade. Instead, it is expected to be a more "interactive" parade where fans will have the opportunity to see the players and coaches up close.
