If you want to save your time, money and reduce stress – start with minimalism today.

I’m not selling you minimalism. If you are reading this, you are already half-way to activating your own minimalistic road.

In order to start the journey, you need to open your mind and heart and close your wallet.

But let’s go step-by-step.

Identify your Motivation. You really have to find a reason why you want to start with minimalism. For some people it often starts only as a reason to stop spending money and save it, but if that’s the only reason you don’t be able to stay on the road for a long time. Sure, any kind of minimalism is better than none, but if you really want to keep it going don’t be afraid to change your goals over time.

Once you have your starting motivation make sure that you are keeping true to yourself. Don’t buy your breakfast – make it. Don’t take your car to work – walk. That sort of thing.

Join a Community. Minimalism movement takes many shapes and forms so that’s why it’s great to be a part of a community of like-minded people. Plus, they will keep you motivated through time, especially if you are brave enough to share your journey and all the test that come with it.

And even if you slip, you will find support every step of the way because you try!

Just Start. Simply start doing something that you consider to be a step in the right direction. Don’t buy too much food and later throw it away. That’s how I started! If you live anywhere in the developed world chances of you starving are very slim, so control your urge to stock on food like nuclear disaster is about to happen.

Wear raggedy T-Shirts around the house. You don’t need that $3 T-Shirt on discount because you already have a few that are just lying there.

Think. If it’s about money – think about every buy that you make. Think about the use value of the thing that you want to buy. If it has no use to you, just don’t buy it. On the other hand, if it has use check the price tag and decide is it worth it. Think about the time and resources you are going to need to take care of it.

Plan for crisis. You might wake up some day and just think ‘screw it!’ You might browse through Amazon and just start adding things to cart. We’ve all been there! Just make a deal with yourself. This is how I do it! When I want to buy something I take at least 24 hours to think about it. And most of the time I end up not buying it. And my life goes on as usual.

Experiment. Don’t be afraid to experiment. If your TV broke, try going a few days without it before buying a new one. I live without TV for 11 months now and thanks to the internet I’m still well informed about all the things that are going on around me and around the world. You don’t need to turn yourself into a hermit (unless you want to). Try Project 333 – dress with 33 items or less for 3 months.

There are many more things that you can to today to start with minimalism today, but the important thing is to take things slow and make small steps towards happiness.
