Distractions keep you like an anchor from reaching your full potential. Remove them!

It seems like the simplest thing, to remove all the distractions from your life. But, do you know all of them? And are they really distractions?

There are some questions to answer before you get into removing things from your life, but here are some of general distractions that became the problem of everyday people.

Social Media

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram... Everything that has to do with your phone beeping all the time and sending you useless notifications about someone else having a life can be considered a distraction. Not to mention the space between the notification when you only browse aimlessly.

If you are not, in some way, doing business over social media, everything else is a waste of time, especially when you should be using your peak hours to be productive. Stopping in the middle of work to check what’s new on Facebook and wasting a better part of an hour on it is just bad investment.

Set a time of the day when you can freely browse the internet, but limit yourself to no more than one hour a day. If you manage to do this, you’ll learn even this is too much most of the time.

Other Digital Media

Distractions extend to other forms of digital media as well. Emails, Youtube videos etc. They should be added to your social media time slot.

I found it best to answer emails early in the morning, as most of them are not urgent. You now have Whatsapp for urgent. Which also brings me to Whatsapp! Turn of the sound and read a group chat when you have time, because most of it is just rubbish. And make sure that you turn of your tone completely when you are sleeping, because most of chatting occurs in the late evening when people are bored.

Take Breaks

If you work in an environment where smartphones are not allowed to use, or you are locked from all the procrastination out there, make sure that you are taking your breaks. Stretch, have a coffee, eat something, take a walk. Just don’t force your body or mind to work without a pause. It’s rude to people who don’t have the luxury of taking breaks.

Breaks will make you less likely to go insane on the job, but they will also give you a fresh boost and keep you away from other distractions.

Hard Tasks First

You have to go to your job, or do it even if you work from home. In any case, take the hardest thing you have to do and to it in the morning. For me, personally, it’s training. While I love working out, after a hard day I’ll get easily distracted and skip my workout. That’s why I try, as much as I can, to work out in the morning and jump start my day.

Choose Your Surroundings

If you are out of high school or college, chances are you have a few friends that suit you and you should not go around a try to be friends with everyone.

As the years go by, you’ll start recognizing people that drain your energy away and you don’t need someone who has that kind of influence on you. Limit your openness to listen to other people’s crap and keep that circle to a minimum.

And while it may seem cruel, in a way, you are preventing yourself to be distracted with problems that don't influence or interest you.
