The Deepest Cave in the World – Krubera Cave

This mountain range contains hundreds of caves. Five caves are deeper than 1,000 meters. Krubera cave, with a depth of 2.197 meters, is the most famous and the deepest cave on Earth.

The cave was discovered in 1960, and the title of the deepest cave has only since 2001, when a group ofUkrainian researchers came to depths of 1,710 meters. The same team three years later for the first time went below 2,000 meters and in 2007 set a current record.

At a depth of 200 meters, the cave is divided into two main "branches"; Non-Kuibishevskaia (explored to the depth of 1,293 meters in 2008) and the main cave (with a record depth of 2,197 meters). At a depth of 1,300 meters cave is further divided into a number of "branches".

Krubera cave is 16,058 feet long cave system, which is mainly composed of deep wells, which are connected with passageways.

The cave begins high in the mountains, at an altitude of 2,256 meters, with many narrow entrances. The entrance to the cave Krubera in some places is very narrow and had to be committed to ensure safe passage while in other places the passage is as large as subway tunnel.
