You are probably going to make many New Year’s resolutions, as you do every year, but those that are going to affect your business should be thoughtfully planned. After all, the resolutions you make are going to have a positive impact on your small business, so make sure that they are good and up-to-date.

Learn New Things. No matter how old you or your businesses are, you will always need to learn some new tricks if you want to follow the trends and further develop your small business. It can be a short course or just something you found online, but make sure that you are evolving and ever-learning. Always access what kind of new skill would your business need, and make a decision based on that.

Take Care. It seems like a pretty simple advice, but you as a business owner you can often push your body and mind too far, and then be out of the game for a week or two. It’s better to invest some time in body and mind relaxation. Spend time with your family, go hiking, hit the gym or whatever else helps you to get all the daily stress out. Healthy body, healthy mind, healthy business.

Get Better at Social Media. Ever growing world of social media has more and more impact on how people do business, and if you are not in the game you are losing a lot of potential customers. Perhaps you don’t have enough time or knack to deal with all the things yourself, but make sure that you understand what your social media manager is doing and what’s the direct correlation between social media and your business success.

Promote. It can be in direct link with social media, but also separate. You should give promo material whenever you can, use your email list to send updates about business and be present a conferences. Give passionate speeches, meet with potential investors and try to be present everywhere. You employees, no matter how many of them you have, can play a huge part in how business is promoted, so make sure you motivate them enough so that they have something nice to say about your business.

Let Go. Sometimes you and your employees spend a lot of time on a project and it still isn’t giving any results, so maybe it’s time to move on. You did spend a lot of resources, but if you don’t drop it you will spend even more. Take lessons from it. What did go wrong? Make better plans in the future.

You should be skilled in making detailed plans of how things are going to work out in your advantage. Listen. One of the most important things every business owner can do it to listen. Listen to your customers say good things, but listen more when they complain. Listen to your employees who spend free time thinking about how to advance YOUR business. Setting ego aside can create many new chances for your team to shine and that creates a better chemistry and working environment.
