This news comes from the CEO of the Japanese company Softbank. According to him, sales of these robots that are designed to serve as nannies, nurses, emergency medical workers or even friends for fun will start in February 2015, with the price of 198,000 yen (1,900 dollars).
"They will be capable of learning and expressing emotion," said Masayoshi Son, Softbank's CEO, at a press conference at which he was accompanied by the sleek robot named "Pepper", who chatted with reporters using its high-pitched, boyish voice. "People may look back 100 years later, or 200 years later (and say) that was a historic moment we are having today," he added.
The prototype robot for personal use will be presented this week, and for its first appearance it will act as the seller in the stores of Softbank mobile phone company in Japan.
Son claims that those will be the first robots in human history to get the heart and emotions.
The company claims that this could be their chanse for expanding business in a sector that is considered crucial for resolving the shortage of labor in a society whose population is rapidly aging.
