Apple's WWDC 2014 that ended recently was the Cupertino firm's rare showcasing of innvoative software and hardware that the company is working on.
Undoubtedly, Apple is one of the most innovative tech firms in the industry. There was some question about the company's futue after co-founder succumbed to pancreatic cancer a couple of years ago, name Tim Cook as CEO. Cook seemed a little timid in his first couple of public appearances and there were doubts if he was the right person to run the company. Worse, there was always a comparison if Cook was doing things the way 'Jobs' did. And that was quite a challenge for the company and its products.
Cook turned things around with the successful release of the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s. The strategy of marketing the iPhone 5c solely in China did not prove to be successful. And a reverse strateg of producing an 8GB iPhone 5c in Europe was not very popular either. But it did address the release of a cheaper Nokia-style feature phone for a lower end market.
The main releases of WWDC 2014 was the iOS8 and iOSX, both revolutionary operating system software when combined with an iPhone or an iPad. There was also mention of a Healthbook app which would monitor the heart and provide other vital signs information much like fitness devices.
However, it was clearly a disappointment to miss out on a great opportunity to unveil the hotly anticipated 'iWatch' which is long overdue. In fact, analsysts say that after a certain point the iWatch might become relevant because Apple's rivals Samsung in particular has already released its second versions of smartwatches, the Samsung Gear 2.
