Collectible card game doesn’t pop into mind when someone is thinking about eSports games, that is why Hearthstone didn’t look like it was going to make it very far when it was first announced. However, Hearthstone is now one of the most popular eSports game around even though it’s less than a year old. It is easy to play but very hard to master. There are already more then 20 million people playing this game.
4. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Counter-Strike was also on most people’s favorite games list back in the day. Even when there was no internet connection, Counter Strike was one of those games that were exploding on LANs. Counter-Strike: GO was clearly created with eSports in mind.
3. Starcraft 2
It is a military science fiction real time strategy. StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty sold 1.5 million copies in its first two days and 3 million copies in its first month. It was the best-selling game of July 2010. Right now Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm is the best RTS and the only one that’s popular among eSports fans. Originally StarCraft was sinonim for E-Sports in Korea.

2. Dota 2
Dota 2 International 2014 was the biggest eSports tournament with the $11 million prize pool. $9 million of this amount was raised by the community. Aside from money, Dota 2 has huge popularity of hardcore MOBA fans. Right next to Starcraft 2, this is the most difficult game on the eSports scene. Dota 2 is not hard to master, but it is crazy to learn. Like any Moba games, it is very fun to watch so it is one of the best games to spectate on the table as well.
1. League of Legends
Even if you are not into the League, you have to admit that there is no doubt LOL is the most popular eSports game around. There is a massive player base. And it keeps growing. There are 80 million accounts created in the League. There is less depth in terms of gameplay compared to our number 2 on this list. There is less farming, less item building and the games are shorter. This allows people to see more fight action and quicker games. League might not be the best but it surely is the most popular one and the echo system they have created around it has the best connection with everything that eSports represent.
