The city of Shenzhen on the south of China has announced that they will limit sales of new cars, and they will join big cities like Shanghai and Beijing in war against smog and traffic jams.

It is expected that this initiative will get even more Chinese cities, and it will make the situation at Chinese car market and increase pressure to major car producers like General Motors and Volkswagen to increase their speed of market penetration in smaller cities on the west of China.

The government of Shenzhen, a city with around 10 million people, claim that the number of new vehicles that people will be able to buy, will be reduced to max. 100.000 vehicles per year.

Shenzhen joined Hangdjou, Shanghai, Beijing, Tienzin and Gueyang, which have already started similar measures.

MacKinsey Consulting claims that by 2020, more than 20 Chinese cities will reach the limit of road usage of 250 vehicles per kilometer, and that is why they are forcing Chinese government to increase measures.

I don't know where this will lead, but I hope that they will get out of their crisis, since they are the country with the highest industrial development for decades and it wouldn't be good if they got into problems with ecology and traffic jams, since it might make their products unavailable to the rest of the world.
