Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has officially opened a new assembly plant in Tilburg in the Netherlands that will allow the old continent customers to get their costly electric cars more quickly.
The first European factory of Californian car manufacturer covers an area of 77.648 square meters, and is intended for the assembly of Model S which will be sold on the European market. Maximum production capacity is 450 units monthly.
This plant will also be the first in Europe with an internal test path 750 meters long. It provides the ability of simulating different types of driving surfaces for testing the quality, noise and vibration while driving, as well as a new "Autopilot" program for autonomous driving.

Although cars will not be fully manufactured in the factory, batteries, drive systems and rear axle will be assembled in the Dutch factory after they arrive from the company headquarters in Fremont, California.
The factory in Tilburg will build all versions of Model S, from the basic 70D which costs 67,000 euros ($ 75,000) to the exclusive P90D with the price of 115,885 euros ($ 130,000) with "Ludicrous" acceleration mode which allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds.
According to announcements, the factory will also assemble electric crossover Model X.
