If noblemen built their castles medieval Europe to show their power and to be able to withdraw in time of war, the Maghreb important people could be recognized by imposing fortresses called "Kasbah".
Each settlement had a Kasbah, usually positioned in the center, to show prominence owner but many noblemen chose to build their fortified residences and scenic areas or of strategic importance.
