There are so many types of pollution and, great percentage of total pollution is done in cities. First of all, many people live in cities, they have cars. Their cars release CO2 to the atmosphere and create a lot of noise. Those people create a lot of wastewater while living in cities. That water gets into rivers and it pollutes water. Now we have some filters based on microbiology, but, there are still a lot of examples of pollution like this all around the world. People who live in big cities need to make their combos warm at winter. Because of that, there are so many greenhouse gasses released to the air from inadequate heating systems. There are more examples how cities pollute the environment, but, generally, when some place has that many people living there, going to work every day, with all of the supporting systems required, the fact is that environment is going to be polluted.

Actually, that was a fact until there wasn’t a city named Masdar City in Abu Dhabi. What is so special about this city? Well, it is a city as every other city, it has its population, traffic, energy requirements and everything else that other cities have. Except one thing. The reason why Masdar City is different is because Masdar City is the world’s first and for now the world’s only city with zero carbon emission. How is that possible? Masdar City is getting all the required energy from solar panels, from wind and generally, it uses no fossil fuel.
Masdar is not only one place in the world that doesn’t destroy our planet. Masdar represents a great opportunity and a motivation for other places and companies to run their business and create their strategies in a way that won’t pollute air. Masdar’s built environment is something that provides great possibilities for creative thinking, it attracts many companies to create their business centers there, because, only by moving their offices to this city, companies reduce global pollution.

Masdar not only uses only renewable energy sources, but it is also very energetically efficient city. Every building in this city uses 54% less potable water than average. Latest technologies are used for insulation, so, buildings in this city are naturally cooler than average buildings in UAE. On the rooftop of every building, there are solar panels that collect the sunrays, which looks as a great investment if you consider that Abu Dhabi has so many sunny days.

The first buildings built in Masdar are six buildings of Masdar Institute campus. These buildings are the best buildings in the whole city, probably more energetic efficient than 99,9% of all other buildings in the world. All these buildings are connected and monitored, because data about their water consumption is used by students of the University.

Another interesting thing about these buildings is that they really, but, really care about details. They have gone so far in promoting sustainability and healthy life that they located stairs at very visible places and people will always first think of stairs if they want to go to the next or previous floor. Don’t think that there are no elevators, because, these are ultra modern buildings. There are elevators, but, those elevators are, I could say, hidden, so people will always use stairs instead.

Masdar City is also a great business center. But, if some company wants to retail their goods there, they must respect Masdar’s laws and regulations about zero carbon, sustainability and environment protection generally. They not only have to stop releasing carbon into atmosphere, but, they also have to create retailing campaign committed to sustainability. In this town, you won’t be able to find fast food restaurants, at least no fast food restaurants that produce greasy food that is not good for your health. Mostly, you can eat in restaurants that serve natural, organic food.

Masdar City also invests a lot into education. They got one very long list of world famous professors in order to attract the best students in the world. Masdar does a lot to connect with other organizations in order to promote sustainable development and clean technologies. They offer many solutions for efficient insulation systems, for renewable energy production, provide consulting services and trainings for experts from different areas all around the world.

Masdar is an ultra modern Arabian city, a place where innovation is motivated at every step, where everybody is thinking green. It is a place that provides a lot of business chances, place where you can connect with many world famous companies. Masdar is a place that represents the best example what cities should look like in a future if we want to live on this planet then. It is a magnet for talented people, for people with vision to get their dreams come true and to make their minds work better, without CO2 in the air, with low noise level, without traffic jams.
