So everybody here is a consumer. We live in such society. Do we really know what are our consumer rights? We all get offended when something we think it’s our right is kind of injured. Do we even know what’s really our right? Here is what UN thinks our consumer rights should be.

So there are some needs of every consumer that need to be taken care of.

First one is that all consumers have to be taken care of. Not just the ones in formal economy.

Second one is that every enterprise has some responsabilities towards its consumers. Even the state owned ones.

And the last but not the least one is that "the access to essential goods and services should be acknowledged as 'a legitimate need of consumers'"

Nowadays we have not just offline but also online consumers. So what’s the most important thing when it comes to online consumer protection? That’s right! PRIVACY.

And Internet is a big thing nowadays. You just can’t imagine a day without Internet right? What UN says is that there has to be a scope provided to the consumers, that Internet is like our basic service, the one that we need as we need water or food or sanitation. Is it really like this?

And there has to be fairness in the market. Contracts, terms of use, and that stuff should not ask for unreasonable things. Have you ever read the Licence Agrement before you installed some new game you discovered you were so in love with?

Fair competition. Not being sure if there is something more to say here. Left for the reader to interpret it as wanted.

And there has to be some legal tools to prevent abusive practices on consumers.

Here comes health! Health is such an important factor of todays consument society. Today a lot of things, starting with tobacco or alcohol have their regulations and good ones, but, there is a lot to be done here.
There are some sectors that need to be improved when we talk about consumer protection. A lot! These are finances, sanitation, universal services, energy, food, sustainable food production, pharmaceuticals, healthcare.

15 March is the Worlds day for Consumer protection!

Let’s make every day day of consumer protection!
