We all want to know how worthy are our bloggers – do we pay too much or too little? The answer may surprise you!

Way of Charging

Some bloggers charge per hour while others charge per word. As an employer it is your job to determine the experience and worth of every blogger you hire. By knowing what exactly you want out of them, you can easily determine the cost you are willing to pay. Writing a short, text only, blog can cost maybe $10, but if you expand the list of requests (images, links, graphs…) expect to pay more. Remember that a blogger with extensive knowledge about your business, industry, or blog topic can bring a lot of value to your blog, and it's likely she'll charge a premium fee for that knowledge.

Per Post vs. Flat Rate

A lot depends on what kind of deal you make with the blogger you are using. The price can be from $5 to $150 per blog. If this sounds like too much money, you should rethink and maybe writing your own content as often as possible. The amount of time and effort invested in the article is very important. Some people will write it fast but with less quality, while others will write really good content but charge really much for it.

If you expect the writer to do serious research, source images, publish and share content etc, more realistic price is around $25-$75. If you require them to communicate or interview others for the blog the price is going past $100.

Now, paying someone a flat rate can have benefits as you secure a steady job for them so it can cost you less.

How Much Should You Pay Your Company Bloggers?

Once you have these two things figured you should ask yourself this:

Can someone from the staff do it? Most of the time, your company already has someone who is skilled or interested enough to do the job, or is willing to learn it. Other times, you are not so lucky so you have to hire a freelancer.

What is blog going to accomplish? If your blog’s purpose is only to help you rank higher in search listings, paying a lower price for articles that feature your preferred keywords might be fine. However, if you’d like more out of your blog (growing your list, converting readers to customers, amplifying your voice, growing your tribe), you’re going to need to expect more of your content creator.

Couple of important tips:

NEVER compromise on quality. Hiring freelancers who’s work you don’t know is probably too risky, so make sure they have the quality first. Negotiate, get the price down if you can, and use the ones that can be trusted.

ALWAYS ask the best for the money you are willing to pay. It is you right and privilege to hire whomever you want, so try to make every penny count.
