Mortal Kombat 11 is available since April 23, 2019. Let's see what brings!

Longtime expected, Mortal Kombat 11 is here. If you are a fan of Mortal Kombat franchise, you probably already watched trailer video and you know how brutal and amazing graphics are. The first thing to notice is a fantastic story mode, which follows the MK storyline in the best way possible. Liu Kang and Kitana have united once again and they hug each other. Of course, everything is a little bit awkward because Kitana is too important now. It describes everything about their relationship, even those not familiar with the MK story can understand.

I felt like 13 years old when I saw this, everything seems so romantic. Relationships, hugs in video games are the way to go. Furthermore, the story defines Mortal Kombat again as a real fighting game as it always was. The fighting is better than ever. The fatalities are brutal and inventive as always and even better. The game contains so many unlockables, it will keep you busy for months. But I still must focus on story mode because it combines 27 years of MK lore and improves it with something similar to a modern-day fantasy movie.

The new villain is Kronika (Time Keeper). Her goal is to rewrite time to erase Raiden's actions when he beheaded Shinnok upsetting the balance of the universe. This story setup is very similar to Injustice; both games have a morally-ambiguous setup. The game also has classic versions of the game’s heroes who are coming back from the original game, alongside the revenant versions from MK X.

It is unbelievably interesting for all people who followed the story from the beginning, and it is a perfect way to start story afresh. Many interesting things happen, such as Johnny Cage arguing with his younger self, this part is so funny. NetherRealm has incredible facial tech experts capable to create an amazing emotional trauma as well as all physical effects, there are moments of the pathological violence alongside genuine pathos. This story is the best in fighting games, more advanced than Injustice 2.

But all this would not be important without good fighting. Each fighter has a very deep level of customization. AI behavior is amazing, gear, abilities, skins, a great variety of unlockables which you can earn through playing and very rich Krypt mode. You are also able to explore Shang Tsung’s island where you can open chests, knock down walls and spend your currency. Loot is random, but you can easily figure out how good something is based on how expensive chest is. The third person implementation is very well done even though it is not the main part of the game. But you should know that it is not easy to unlock specific chest you want, and cosmetics in MK 11 are not that rewarding like the gear grind in Injustice 2. For me, it was interesting to do something like that in Injustice 2, but when it comes to Mortal Kombat, I am much less enthusiastic to do that for a costume for Raiden or Erron Black. It is not very pleasant to work in MK 11. You can buy Time Crystals for real money and spend it in the store to get any of the premium items on sale. Just like in Mortal Kombat X you can buy easy fatalities. This currency was always very weird but it plays a role like an accessibility option. NetherRealm Studios announced that they will reduce the grind, but a total overhaul is not going to happen most likely. Presently, you can’t buy everything you want with real money, even if you wish to do so.

Eventually, some great news comes for PC players. Mortal Kombat X always had a problem with the PC port, actually, it was a horrible port, but Mortal Kombat 11 is totally created to be PC friendly. For me personally, the auto-configuration tool did not work perfectly, but I managed to play the game on maximum settings using a 1070and get a consistent 55fpsduring gameplay. Some PC-specific options and features are also implemented such as integration with RGB displays, some small problems do exist but it’s nothing too serious. PC players can now fully enjoy the Mortal Kombat franchise.
